Yuma Kagiyama Claims First National Title, Earns World Championship Berth

Yuma Kagiyama achieved a significant milestone in his career, capturing his first Japanese National Figure Skating Championship title. The 2022 Olympic silver medalist delivered a strong performance in both the short program and free skate, ultimately scoring 297.73 points to secure the victory. This victory not only solidifies Kagiyama’s position as a top contender in men’s figure skating but also secures his place on the Japanese team for the upcoming World Championships in Boston.

Following in the footsteps of his father, two-time national champion Masakazu Kagiyama, Yuma’s victory adds another chapter to their family’s legacy in Japanese figure skating. Rio Nakata and Tatsuya Tsuboi rounded out the podium, both achieving career-best finishes at the national level.

The competition was fierce, with several talented skaters vying for top honors. Nobunari Oda, a veteran skater competing in his final season, delivered a strong performance but ultimately finished fourth.
