The Carolina Hurricanes are nearing the finish line of their offseason overhaul, with securing new contracts for restricted free agents Martin Necas and Seth Jarvis being their top priority. General Manager Eric Tulsky addressed the media on Thursday, outlining the team’s remaining goals.
Necas on the Clock
Necas, with a salary arbitration hearing scheduled for August 4th, is the more pressing concern. “We’re continuing talks with his agent,” said Tulsky, emphasizing the desire to avoid arbitration. Both sides are exploring contract lengths ranging from one to eight years.
Jarvis’ Future Secured (Eventually)
While Jarvis doesn’t face an arbitration deadline, Tulsky expressed confidence in reaching a deal. “He wants to stay long-term, and we feel the same,” he said. Bridge deals or a longer-term contract are both possibilities.
Offseason Recap: A Mix of Departures and Acquisitions
The Hurricanes have undergone a significant roster transformation this offseason. Key departures include forwards Jake Guentzel, Teuvo Teravainen, and Stefan Noesen, along with defensemen Brady Skjei and Brett Pesce.
However, Carolina has been active in free agency, re-signing key players like Sean Walker, Shayne Gostisbehere, William Carrier, and Jack Roslovic. The termination of Evgeny Kuznetsov’s contract frees up additional cap space, but Tulsky downplayed the possibility of using it for a replacement center.
Looking Ahead: Focus on Internal Growth
With Necas and Jarvis’ contracts likely on the horizon, the Hurricanes seem content with their current roster. Tulsky acknowledged they’ll continue exploring trade options, but the priority appears to be internal development for the upcoming season.
