The Washington Capitals extended their winning streak to five games with a 6-3 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday night. Connor McMichael stole the show, scoring twice in a dominant second period to propel the Capitals to victory.
McMichael’s goals came just over three minutes apart, putting the Capitals comfortably ahead after early tallies from Taylor Raddysh and Nic Dowd. The Flyers showed some fight in the third period, scoring three goals themselves, but empty-net goals from Pierre-Luc Dubois and Alex Ovechkin sealed the deal for Washington.
This win is particularly sweet for the Capitals considering their recent dominance over the Flyers. They swept the back-to-back series, winning 4-1 in Philadelphia on Tuesday and 6-3 tonight at Capital One Arena. Ovechkin’s empty-net goal was his 855th career goal, bringing him within 39 of Wayne Gretzky’s NHL record.
