Two-time Olympian Jason Brown has officially confirmed his participation in the upcoming World Figure Skating Championships in Boston, set for March 25-30, after successfully completing a “return to play” protocol. This news comes after Brown’s absence from January’s US Championships, which raised concerns about his eligibility for the global event.

The 30-year-old figure skater revealed to Olympics.com on Sunday, March 2nd, at the Legacy on Ice benefit in Washington, D.C., that he had fulfilled the required monitoring outlined in his selection to the US squad. His withdrawal from the US Championships was attributed to “a series of challenges adjusting to an equipment change.”

“I’m feeling so much better,” Brown stated. “I’m really grateful that they accepted the petition and they gave me that spot for Worlds. I’ve done my monitoring—it’s important, as always. So, I had that asterisk next to my name. I completed the monitoring, and they signed off on that.”

Brown expressed his satisfaction with the progress he has made in resolving the equipment issues. “I’m really, really proud of the progress that I’ve made, solving those equipment issues,” he said. “I’m moving in the right direction and definitely excited to have another three weeks of training under my belt before the World Championships.”

Despite his intensive preparations for the World Championships, Brown emphasized the importance of attending the Legacy on Ice memorial, which honored the victims of the tragic American Eagle Flight 5342 crash. “There are moments like these where it’s bigger than sport,” Brown explained. “Yes, I’m working really hard preparing for the World Championships, but there was not even a moment of doubt about being here.” He clarified, “Of course, the World Championships are extremely important, so I don’t want to downplay that at all, but there wasn’t a second of doubt that I was going to be here.”

This confirmation solidifies Brown’s path to Boston, where he will aim to showcase his skills and compete among the world’s best figure skaters. His determination to overcome recent challenges and his commitment to both his sport and community events highlight his dedication and character as he prepares for the prestigious competition.
