Buffalo Sabres forward Tage Thompson rewrote the record books on Saturday, unleashing the fastest shot ever tracked by NHL EDGE data in four seasons! His blistering one-timer clocked in at a staggering 104.69 miles per hour against the Detroit Red Wings.

This impressive feat comes just three days after Utah’s Michael Kesselring set the previous mark at 103.77 mph. Thompson’s blast not only secured the new record, but also played a key role in the Sabres’ 5-3 victory. The shot, saved by Red Wings goalie Alex Lyon, resulted in a rebound goal by Jason Zucker, putting Buffalo on the scoreboard first.

Prior to this week’s record-breaking displays, the title of hardest shot belonged to Winnipeg Jets defenseman Colin Miller, whose slapshot clocked in at 102.59 mph against the Dallas Stars last season.

Thompson’s scorching shot is a testament to the raw power present in the NHL today. It’ll be interesting to see if any other players can challenge his record as the season progresses.
