Nancy Kerrigan’s $10 Million Legacy: Success Beyond the Ice
October 29, 2025

In a league defined by its legends, Sidney Crosby forged his own chapter on Monday night, officially joining the NHL’s most exclusive fraternity. With a brilliant three-point performance—a goal and two assists—the Pittsburgh Penguins captain surpassed the 1,700 career point mark in a decisive 6-3 victory over the St. Louis Blues.
Crosby’s latest achievement places him ninth on the League’s all-time scoring list, now standing at 1,701 points (632 goals, 1,069 assists). He steps into an elite circle alongside names like Wayne Gretzky, Gordie Howe, and fellow Penguins icon Mario Lemieux.
While simply reaching 1,700 points is remarkable, Crosby’s pace underscores his historical impact. He accomplished the feat in just 1,362 games, making him the fourth-fastest player to the milestone in NHL history, behind only Gretzky, Lemieux, and Marcel Dionne.
The magnitude of the accomplishment was not lost on the future Hall of Famer. “Joining that company, those are players I grew up idolizing, I didn’t ever think I’d be with them or near them,” Crosby stated. “It’s something I’m grateful for, that I’ve been able to play this long and be part of that group.”
The Penguins needed every bit of Crosby’s offensive engine. After staking a quick 2-0 lead in the first minute, Pittsburgh allowed the Blues to battle back and tie the game 2-2.
The moment of history arrived in the third period. Just 42 seconds in, Crosby earned the secondary assist on a Bryan Rust goal, a deflection off a shot from defenseman Erik Karlsson, pushing the score to 4-2. Rust, who scored twice and had an assist himself, acknowledged the significance: “To get the goal on 1,700 is really cool and something I’m going to remember.”
Crosby later tallied his own insurance goal, finishing his own rebound on a breakaway late in the period to seal the 6-3 win.
The victory moved Pittsburgh to an impressive 7-2-1 record, maintaining a six-game point streak (5-0-1). The supporting cast was instrumental, with Evgeni Malkin contributing a goal and an assist, and Karlsson logging three assists.
Despite the loss, the struggling St. Louis Blues (3-5-1) saw forward Jordan Kyrou extend his personal point streak to seven games. However, a poor start—allowing two goals in the opening minute—ultimately doomed them.
But the night belonged to the captain. By surpassing 1,700 points, Sidney Crosby has not only etched his name further into the Penguins’ record books—surpassing Lemieux for the most multi-point games with the franchise (498)—but solidified his standing as an all-time great in the annals of hockey history.
