Just days after being fired by the Boston Bruins, Jim Montgomery has landed a new coaching job! The St. Louis Blues announced on Sunday that they have hired Montgomery as their new head coach, replacing Drew Bannister. Montgomery signed a 5-year contract with the Blues, marking a quick turnaround after his dismissal from Boston.
Montgomery’s Past Success and Return to St.. Louis
This isn’t Montgomery’s first stint with the Blues. He previously served as an assistant coach for the team for two seasons under Craig Berube. Montgomery brings a wealth of experience to the table, having won the Jack Adams Award as the League’s top coach in his first season with the Bruins (2022-23). He boasts an impressive record of 180-84-33 in 297 NHL games.
Blues Hoping for Montgomery Magic
The Blues are looking to Montgomery to turn their season around. They currently sit in sixth place in the Central Division with a record of 9-12-1 and have struggled with special teams and scoring goals. Blues president of hockey operations and general manager Doug Armstrong believes Montgomery’s ability to connect with players and get the most out of them will be a key asset.
