Pietrangelo Withdraws from 4 Nations Face-Off Due to Ailment

Vegas Golden Knights defenseman Alex Pietrangelo will miss the upcoming 4 Nations Face-Off tournament due to an undisclosed ailment. The announcement came on Sunday after Pietrangelo played in the Golden Knights’ 4-1 victory over the Florida Panthers.

The 35-year-old was selected for Team Canada’s roster for the best-on-best tournament, which will be held in Montreal and Boston from February 12th to 20th. Pietrangelo will now focus on recovering and rejoin the Golden Knights for the remainder of the regular season.

This is a blow to Team Canada, as Pietrangelo is a two-time Stanley Cup champion with a wealth of experience. Canada will open the tournament against Sweden on February 12th. Sweden themselves might also be facing some roster changes, with potential replacements needed for injured goalie Jacob Markstrom and forward William Karlsson.

The Golden Knights currently sit atop the Pacific Division, one point ahead of the Edmonton Oilers. They will be back in action on Tuesday against the Dallas Stars.
