February 03, 2025

Maysa Arena buzzed with excitement this past weekend as 220 figure skaters from North Dakota, Minnesota, and Saskatchewan, including 45 from the Magic City Figure Skating Club, competed in the 2025 Magic City International Figure Skating Competition. The event showcased a wide range of skills and disciplines, from Free Skate routines to Spins, Jumps, and Solo Pattern Dance.
Among the local standouts were Marin Sorum and Maddie Kirkhammer, who both delivered impressive performances in the Free Skate event. Sorum, adorned in a striking red dress, captivated the audience with her graceful jumps and spins, earning her second place in her group. Kirkhammer also shone brightly, her sparkly purple dress complementing her skillful display of spins, jumps, and emotive performance, ultimately securing her first place in her group.
The Free Skate event challenged skaters to choreograph routines to music, incorporating a specific number of spins and jumps. The dedication and hard work of all the competitors were evident in their polished performances, a testament to the countless hours spent practicing and perfecting their routines. The competition highlighted the diverse talents and dedication of the young athletes.

The Magic City Figure Skating Club, with a history dating back to 1970, plays a vital role in developing local figure skating talent. The club’s focus on quality coaching empowers skaters to reach their full potential. Following the success of the Magic City International Competition, the club will host its annual ice show next weekend, beginning Friday at 7 p.m.
