The Seattle Kraken secured their future with a key piece on Monday, signing forward Matty Beniers to a seven-year,$49.98 million contract with an average annual value of $7.14 million.
The 21-year-old Beniers was coming off a strong first full season in the NHL, where he put up 37 points (15 goals, 22 assists) in 77 games. However, his breakout year came a season prior, in 2022-23, when he captured the Calder Trophy as the league’s Rookie of the Year. During that campaign, Beniers led all rookies in points (57) and tied for the most goals (24) in 80 games.
“Matty has quickly become a core player for our team,” said Kraken general manager Ron Francis. “His contributions extend beyond the ice, and his commitment to our community and fans is truly appreciated. Signing Matty to this long-term deal was a top priority for us this offseason, and we’re thrilled to have him locked in for years to come. We’re excited to see him continue to develop and contribute to many more memorable moments for the Kraken organization.”
Drafted second overall by Seattle in the 2021 NHL Draft, Beniers has already amassed 103 points (42 goals, 61 assists) in 167 regular-season games. He has also shown his playoff potential, recording seven points (three goals, four assists) in 14 Stanley Cup Playoff appearances.
This long-term deal signals the Kraken’s confidence in Beniers as a cornerstone player for their future success.
