William Stromgren, a young forward with the Calgary Flames organization, has made significant strides in the past year, raising hopes for a potential NHL debut this season.

The 21-year-old struggled initially in his first year of pro hockey outside Sweden, but a switch flipped after the new year. “From last year to the end of the year, he was the guy who took by far the biggest strides,” praised Flames GM Craig Conroy. “It doesn’t even look like the same player.”

Stromgren blossomed in the second half of the AHL season, racking up 27 points (7 goals, 20 assists) in 68 games. He attributes his improvement to getting comfortable with the new team, country, and style of play. “I just had to trust myself and play my game,” he explained.

The turnaround was dramatic. After just 3 points in his first 28 games, Stromgren exploded for 24 points (6 goals, 18 assists) in the final 40 games. He even added 4 points in the playoffs.

While Stromgren is happy with his progress and the praise from management, he isn’t satisfied. “I’m not done yet,” he declared. “I’ve got a lot more to prove.”

Stromgren’s development comes at a perfect time for the Flames, who are undergoing a rebuild after missing the playoffs last season. The team traded away veteran players and are looking to young talent to step up.

Stromgren is excited about the opportunity but remains patient. “There’s no rush,” he said. “I’m just going to trust the process, do my best every day, and see how far it takes me.”

With his dedication and recent improvement, Stromgren could be a key part of the Flames’ future and see himself in an NHL jersey sooner rather than later.
