Connor McDavid put on a show for his hometown crowd in Toronto on Saturday night, but it wasn’t enough to secure a win for the Edmonton Oilers. The 27-year-old superstar notched a goal and an assist, but the Oilers ultimately fell to the Maple Leafs 4-3 in overtime.

This was the Oilers’ only regular-season trip to Toronto this year, and McDavid had plenty of support in the stands. Friends and family from his hometown of Newmarket cheered him on as he racked up points. He even managed to lead the Oilers to a temporary lead with a power-play goal in the second period.

However, bad luck struck the Oilers late in the third. A clearing attempt by a teammate deflected off McDavid and landed right on the stick of a Maple Leafs player who tied the game. Toronto eventually secured the win in overtime, leaving McDavid and the Oilers with a bittersweet homecoming.
