Rhythmic gymnastics is heading back to The World Games. After missing the 2025 edition in Chengdu, the sport will return to the programme for the 2029 Games in Karlsruhe, Germany, taking place from 19–29 July 2029.

A Big Return

Rhythmic gymnastics was a regular part of The World Games from 2001 through 2022, but was absent from the 2025 edition. Its comeback will once again give individual gymnasts the chance to compete for World Games titles in apparatus finals.

The return is especially significant for Germany, where rhythmic gymnastics has gained enormous attention thanks to Olympic and World champion Darja Varfolomeev. A World Games title is one of the major achievements still missing from her collection.

How The World Games Are Different

The World Games brings together sports that are not currently part of the Olympic programme. For rhythmic gymnastics, however, the two events offer different opportunities.

The individual all-around is contested at the Olympics, while The World Games provides a major international stage for individual apparatus finals.

That makes the competition particularly exciting: gymnasts can fight for prestigious titles on individual apparatuses rather than only competing for an all-around medal.

Five Gymnastics Disciplines

The 2029 programme will feature 36 sports, including five Gymnastics disciplines.

Alongside Rhythmic Gymnastics, spectators will see Acrobatics, Aerobics, Trampoline & Tumbling, and Parkour.

With Karlsruhe hosting the Games, rhythmic gymnastics is set for another major international spotlight — and fans will have to wait until 2029 to see who takes home the next World Games titles.
