The Biellmann is a challenging figure skating spin that requires flexibility, strength, and balance. To perform this spin successfully, it is essential to have a good range of motion in your shoulders, back, and legs. Incorporating these three stretches into your training routine can help you improve your flexibility and make the Biellmann easier to execute:
Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart and your arms raised overhead. Gently lean to one side, stretching your shoulder and side body. Hold for 15-30 seconds, then repeat on the other side.
Place your hands on your lower back and gently arch your spine backwards. Hold for 15-30 seconds, then release. Repeat several times.
Stand with your feet together and your legs straight. Slowly lift one leg up behind you, keeping your back straight. Hold for 15-30 seconds, then lower your leg back down. Repeat with the other leg.
In addition to these stretches, it is important to practice the Biellmann spin regularly to improve your technique and strength. Remember to warm up thoroughly before attempting this spin and to listen to your body to avoid injury.
By incorporating these stretches and practicing regularly, you can improve your flexibility and make the Biellmann spin a more achievable element in your figure skating routine.
