The Boston Bruins and goaltender Jeremy Swayman have reached an agreement on a lengthy contract, ending a period of negotiation that stretched into training camp.

Eight Years in Boston

Swayman, a restricted free agent, has inked an eight-year contract worth $66 million, carrying an average annual value of $8.25 million. This deal secures his future with the Bruins through the 2031-32 season.

Missed Camp But Focused on Future

The 25-year-old goalie did not participate in training camp while the contract negotiations were ongoing. However, he expressed his excitement to officially be back with the Bruins organization.

“I’m just so excited to be a Boston Bruin,” Swayman said. “All I care about is being a Bruin […] The fact that I can do that for eight years and instill myself as a leader and as a true member of this city is all I care about right now.“

Coming to Terms

Both sides acknowledged the negotiation process wasn’t always smooth. Bruins president Cam Neely previously hinted at the offer they made Swayman, while the goalie’s agent disputed the specific numbers mentioned. Ultimately, a compromise was reached, with general manager Don Sweeney highlighting the collaborative effort.

Proven Performer

Swayman has established himself as a valuable asset for the Bruins. Last season, he compiled a record of 25-10-8 with a 2.53 goals-against average and a .916 save percentage in the regular season. He also contributed significantly during the Stanley Cup Playoffs, going 6-6 with a 2.15 GAA and a .933 save percentage.

Taking the Lead

With the departure of Linus Ullmark to the Ottawa Senators, Swayman is poised to take on the starting goaltender role for the Bruins. The team opens their season against the Florida Panthers on Tuesday, looking to avenge their defeat in the Eastern Conference Second Round last year.
