The St. Louis Blues bolstered their offensive core on Tuesday with the signing of winger Pavel Buchnevich to a six-year, $48 million contract extension. The deal carries an average annual value of $8 million and kicks in for the 2025-26 season.
Buchnervich, a key contributor for the Blues, notched 63 points (27 goals, 36 assists) in 80 games last season. He tied for second on the team in goals and was their third-highest scorer overall.
Acquired via a trade with the New York Rangers in 2021, Buchnevich has thrived in St. Louis. During his first season with the Blues (2021-22), he set career highs in goals (30), assists (46), and total points (76).
“He’s been an outstanding player for us,” said Blues coach Drew Bannister, expressing his delight at the extension. “He’s a big part of our success, and we believe in him. He believes in us, too.”
The 29-year-old Russian winger has amassed 401 points (162 goals, 239 assists) throughout his NHL career, which includes stints with both the Rangers and Blues. He’s also played in 20 Stanley Cup Playoff games, registering 12 points (one goal, 11 assists).
In addition to the Buchnevich signing, the Blues were busy on the trade front Tuesday, acquiring forwards Radek Faksa and Mathieu Joseph. These moves further strengthen their depth and ability to compete along the boards and in front of the net.
