5 Skills Named After Olympic Gymnasts
February 02, 2025

Sidney Crosby continued his torrid scoring pace, extending his goal streak to four games and adding an assist in the Pittsburgh Penguins’ 3-0 shutout victory over the Nashville Predators at PPG Paints Arena on Saturday. Crosby’s leadership, fresh off being named captain of Canada for the upcoming 4 Nations Face-Off tournament, propelled the Penguins to their second consecutive win, their first such streak since mid-December. The veteran center’s five goals in his last six games highlight his continued offensive prowess.
The Penguins’ balanced attack complemented Crosby’s performance. Alex Nedeljkovic was stellar in net, stopping all 25 shots he faced for his first shutout of the season and ninth of his career. Philip Tomasino opened the scoring for Pittsburgh, while Bryan Rust sealed the win with an empty-net goal. Erik Karlsson and Rickard Rakell each contributed two assists, showcasing the team’s offensive depth. Coach Mike Sullivan praised the team’s simpler, straight-ahead approach, emphasizing their effectiveness when controlling territory.
For the Predators, this loss marks their fourth in a row, a frustrating stretch during which they’ve struggled to find the net. Despite Juuse Saros’s 33 saves, Nashville couldn’t overcome their offensive woes. Coach Andrew Brunette expressed disappointment, citing a lack of energy and poor puck management. Captain Roman Josi echoed the frustration, lamenting the team’s inability to maintain momentum after promising stretches earlier in the season.
Beyond Crosby’s impressive streak, the game featured several noteworthy performances. Tomasino’s goal against his former team added an interesting subplot. Nedeljkovic’s shutout was a much-needed boost for the Penguins. And the debuts of Danton Heinen and Vincent Desharnais, recently acquired from Vancouver, provided a glimpse into the Penguins’ efforts to bolster their roster. The Penguins hope this win signals a turning point in their season as they strive to climb the standings.
