Vancouver Canucks fans hoping for a healthy Thatcher Demko in net for the season opener might be disappointed. The star goalie remains sidelined with a lower-body injury and is unsure if he’ll be ready by October 9th.

Demko skated on his own on Thursday, the first day of training camp, but did not participate with the main group. “I can’t really give you an answer,” Demko admitted when asked about his return timeline. “We’re on a great trajectory right now,” he offered with cautious optimism.

This is concerning news for Canucks fans. Demko was a Vezina Trophy finalist last season, leading the team to a strong playoff run. However, this injury is the latest in a string of lower-body issues that have plagued him in recent seasons.

There is some hope, though. Demko seems confident in his rehab process and the progress he’s made in recent weeks.“I’m not going to give a timeline,” he said, “but I feel really confident where we’re headed.”

The Canucks open the season against the Calgary Flames on October 9th. With Demko’s status uncertain, it remains to be seen who will be between the pipes for the crucial opening game.
