Off-ice training is a crucial component of a figure skater’s success. It complements on-ice practice by building strength, flexibility, and power. However, the timing of your off-ice sessions can significantly impact your performance and overall well-being.

Consider your body’s natural rhythms. Some skaters thrive with morning workouts, finding that early sessions energize them for the rest of the day. Others may prefer evening sessions, allowing them to unwind after school or work and use exercise as a way to de-stress. Experiment to find the time of day when you feel most alert and focused.

Schedule your off-ice sessions strategically to complement your on-ice training schedule. If you have an intense on-ice practice in the morning, a lighter off-ice session later in the day might be more appropriate. Conversely, if you have a lighter on-ice session, you might opt for a more demanding off-ice workout.

Listen to your body. If you’re feeling fatigued or experiencing any pain, don’t push yourself too hard. Rest and recovery are essential for optimal performance.

By carefully considering these factors and finding a training schedule that works best for you, you can maximize the effectiveness of your off-ice training and achieve your full potential on the ice.
