5 Skills Named After Olympic Gymnasts
November 26, 2024

Lucas Broussard, a rising U.S. figure skater, isn’t afraid of hard work. His journey to the ice began unexpectedly in a ski town. Raised in a skiing family, Broussard initially pursued ski racing. However, a visit to the ice rink in Sun Valley sparked a new passion. Despite initial skepticism from his family, Broussard’s dedication to skating prevailed.
Broussard’s talent quickly blossomed, leading him to a junior U.S. title and a top-ten finish at the Junior Worlds. His family has become his biggest supporter, cheering him on as he navigates the demanding world of competitive figure skating.
Injury and Comeback: A Gradual Process
Broussard’s path hasn’t been without hurdles. An SI joint injury sidelined him from his senior national debut last season. The pain persists, but manageable. His return involved a slow and methodical approach, including months off from practicing complex quadruple jumps. Physical therapy, strength training, and even ballet complemented his on-ice training.
Broussard’s coaches, Darin Hoiser and Corrie Martin, have played a crucial role in his development. They push him to excel while prioritizing his health. Challenging workouts and repetitive choreography drills are part of their approach, with long-term benefits in mind. This focused training, though demanding, prepares Broussard for future success.
Perseverance Through Disappointment
The 2024-25 season presented new challenges. Broussard faced a disappointing 10th place finish at his senior Grand Prix debut. Yet, he remains undeterred. As he sets his sights on the upcoming U.S. Championships, resetting his focus and pushing through setbacks will be another test of his resilience. Throughout his young career, Broussard has demonstrated the perseverance needed to overcome hurdles and achieve his skating goals.
