Young Goalie Leads Los Angeles to Narrow Win
Erik Portillo, a rookie goaltender making his NHL debut, stole the show on Friday night as the Los Angeles Kings edged out the Anaheim Ducks 2-1.
Portillo Stands Tall
Portillo, thrust into the starting role due to an injury to Darcy Kuemper, showcased remarkable composure throughout the game. He stopped 28 shots, including a crucial late-game save on Troy Terry to secure the victory. While he admitted to some initial nerves, Portillo quickly found his rhythm and displayed impressive athleticism with his size and quick reflexes.
Kings Earn Hard-Fought Win
Alex Laferriere and Alex Turcotte provided the offensive spark for Los Angeles. Laferriere netted the game-winning goal in the third period and also notched an assist. Turcotte tied the game in the second period with a well-placed shot off a Laferriere pass.
Ducks Fall Short Despite Strong Effort
John Gibson, Anaheim’s goaltender, put in a valiant effort with 16 saves, but the Ducks ultimately fell short. Ryan Strome had their lone goal in the second period.
Looking Ahead
This win marks the Kings’ second consecutive victory, while the Ducks have now lost two straight. Portillo’s performance offers a glimpse of a promising future for Los Angeles, while Anaheim will look to bounce back from this setback.
