5 Skills Named After Olympic Gymnasts
October 13, 2024

Alysa Liu, a former Olympic medalist, made a triumphant return to international competition at the ISU Challenger Series Budapest Trophy 2024. Despite a minor deduction for her triple toe loop, Liu’s strong technical performance and exceptional artistry earned her a commanding lead after the short program.
Strong Start for Liu
Liu, competing for the United States, opened her routine with a triple flip-triple toe loop combination, followed by a clean double Axel and a triple Lutz. Her technical score was impressive, but it was her artistry and performance that truly captivated the judges, earning her the highest program components score among all 20 skaters.
Liu’s Comeback Story
Liu’s return to competitive figure skating comes after a two-year hiatus following her participation in the Beijing 2022 Olympics. At just 19 years old, she is already making a significant impact on the international stage.
Close Competition Behind Liu
Teammate Lindsay Thorngren and Switzerland’s Kimmy Repond sit in second and third place, respectively, trailing Liu by a narrow margin. The women’s free skate will take place on Sunday, October 13th, where Liu will look to maintain her lead and secure a podium finish.
