Edmonton Oilers superstar Connor McDavid has been suspended for three games by the NHL Department of Player Safety for cross-checking Vancouver Canucks forward Conor Garland during Saturday’s game.

The incident occurred late in the third period when McDavid and Garland became entangled. Following the altercation, McDavid struck Garland in the head with his stick, resulting in a match penalty.

Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, McDavid will forfeit $195,312.51 in salary, with the funds going to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund. This suspension marks the second of McDavid’s career.

The Oilers will be without their star player for three games, a significant blow to their playoff push. McDavid, a three-time Hart Trophy winner, is a crucial part of the Oilers’ offense and his absence will be felt on the ice.
