The 2024-25 season is upon us, and NHL.com keeps you updated on all the latest happenings around the league:

Golden Knights Bolster Depth

The Vegas Golden Knights added some veteran experience by signing forward Tanner Pearson to a one-year, $775,000 contract. Pearson impressed during his tryout, chipping in three points (two goals, one assist) in four preseason games. The 32-year-old brings Stanley Cup experience (2014 with the Kings) and a career total of 285 points (138 goals, 147 assists) to bolster Vegas’ depth.

Penguins Grapple with Injuries

The Pittsburgh Penguins face a potential hurdle with key players missing practice due to injuries. Forward Bryan Rust, normally on the top line with Sidney Crosby, remains day-to-day with a lower-body injury. Defenseman Erik Karlsson, also day-to-day with an upper-body injury, participated in practice for the second consecutive day but remains limited in contact drills. Coach Mike Sullivan expressed confidence in Karlsson’s availability for the season opener against the Rangers on October 9th.

Sharks Assign Askarov to AHL

The San Jose Sharks sent highly-touted goalie prospect Yaroslav Askarov to their AHL affiliate after missing all of training camp with a lower-body injury. Acquired in a trade from Nashville in August, Askarov will work his way back to full health with San Jose of the AHL before potentially joining the NHL roster.

Maple Leafs Withstand Injuries

The Toronto Maple Leafs are dealing with their own injury woes as forwards Calle Jarnkrok (lower body) and Nicholas Robertson (upper body), and defenseman Jake McCabe (upper body) all missed practice on Friday. While all three are considered day-to-day, it brings a touch of uncertainty to their final preseason game and season opener. Coach Craig Berube expressed optimism regarding Robertson’s performance, highlighting his work ethic and well-rounded play beyond just goal scoring.

Ducks Return Sennecke to OHL

The Anaheim Ducks announced the return of 18-year-old forward Beckett Sennecke to their OHL affiliate, Oshawa. The third overall pick in the 2024 draft impressed in his preseason debut with four hits in limited ice time. While he didn’t record any points, coach Greg Cronin praised Sennecke’s confidence and vision on the ice, suggesting a bright future for the young forward.
