The Red Wings got off to a strong start, with J.T. Compher scoring early in the first period. However, the Oilers battled back with goals from Draisaitl and Evan Bouchard. Detroit regained the lead in the second period thanks to Andrew Copp, but Bouchard’s blast in the third tied things up again.

With the game seemingly headed for a shootout, Draisaitl capitalized on a 4-on-3 power play in overtime. Connor McDavid found Mattias Ekholm streaking to the net, and Ekholm’s perfect pass set up Draisaitl for an easy tap-in. The win improves the Oilers’ record to 4-4-1.
