The New York Rangers have secured a key piece of their young defense by signing Braden Schneider to a two-year contract. The deal, worth $4.4 million, carries an average annual value of $2.2 million.
Schneider Makes His Mark
The 22-year-old defenseman solidified his role with the Rangers last season. He put up 19 points (5 goals, 14 assists) in 82 regular-season games, showcasing his offensive potential. Schneider’s contributions continued into the playoffs, where he notched 2 assists in 16 games.
Unfinished Business
While the Rangers captured the Presidents’ Trophy for the league’s best regular-season record (55-23-4), they fell short of their ultimate goal. “It’s tough falling short,” Schneider said after the season. However, his focus remains firmly on the future. “I’m excited to come in next year and get right back at it” he declared.
Homegrown Talent
Drafted by the Rangers in the first round (19th overall) in 2020, Schneider has become a fixture on the team’s defense. In his 206 regular-season games, he has amassed 48 points (12 goals, 36 assists). His playoff experience includes 43 games with 6 points (1 goal, 5 assists).
With this new contract, both Schneider and the Rangers seem committed to building on their success and contending for the Stanley Cup in the years to come.
