The Buffalo Sabres rallied from a two-goal deficit to defeat the Vancouver Canucks 3-2 on Tuesday night. The win snapped a two-game losing streak for Buffalo and provided some much-needed momentum after a disappointing performance the previous night.
Jiri Kulich, playing in just his second game back from injury, had a goal and two assists to lead the Sabres’ offense. Tage Thompson opened the scoring for Buffalo in the first period, while JJ Peterka netted the game-winning goal in the third. Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen was strong in net for the Sabres, making 31 saves to secure the victory.
The Canucks had taken a 2-1 lead in the second period on goals by Phillip Di Giuseppe and Elias Pettersson. However, the Sabres showed resilience in the third, outscoring Vancouver 2-0 to claim the win. This loss marked yet another missed opportunity for the Canucks to string together consecutive victories. They haven’t won back-to-back games since December.
Inconsistency has plagued Vancouver throughout the season. Goalie Thatcher Demko acknowledged the team’s struggles and vowed to improve his own performance. The Canucks will need to find a way to close out games if they hope to climb the standings in a competitive Western Conference.
