5 Skills Named After Olympic Gymnasts
November 11, 2024

Mackenzie Blackwood returned to his old stomping grounds in New Jersey a hero, not a villain. The San Jose Sharks goaltender stopped a whopping 44 shots, earning his first shutout of the season and leading his team to a surprising 1-0 victory over the Devils.
This win wasn’t just any shutout for Blackwood. It marked his first against his former team, the New Jersey Devils, where he played for five seasons before being traded to San Jose in 2023. The Sharks’ lone goal came from Nico Sturm in the first period, with a lucky bounce off Timo Meier’s skate. Despite a strong showing from the Devils, Blackwood stood tall, denying every attempt they threw his way. This performance cemented his place as the game’s MVP, with San Jose coach Ryan Warsofsky praising him as “outstanding.”
