The Dallas Stars solidified their defensive core on Tuesday with a pair of contract signings. Veteran defenseman Esa Lindell secured a five-year contract extension worth $26.25 million, while young blueliner Thomas Harley inked a two-year deal for $8 million.

Lindell, 30, was entering the final year of his previous contract and could have become a free agent in July. He’s a key contributor for the Stars, playing in all 82 games last season and leading the team in blocked shots.

“I’m super excited to stay here,” Lindell said, expressing his joy at the long-term commitment. “Everything worked out smoothly… We love the city, the organization, and the fans. We have a chance to win, and that was a big deal.”

Harley, 23, enjoyed a breakout season in 2023-24, leading Dallas defensemen in goals and finishing second in points. This new contract reflects the Stars’ confidence in his development.

“Thomas is one of the League’s top young defensemen,” said Stars GM Jim Nill. “We are looking forward to his continued growth.”

With these signings, the Stars have locked in two crucial pieces of their defense for years to come. This stability will be a valuable asset as they continue their quest for the Stanley Cup.
