The Dallas Stars locked up their starting goalie, Jake Oettinger, for the foreseeable future with an eight-year, $66 million contract extension. This move comes as Oettinger was nearing restricted free agency after the current season.
The 25-year-old has impressed early this season, boasting a perfect record (3-0-0) with a stellar 1.63 goals-against average. He’s also a proven playoff performer, leading Dallas to the Western Conference Finals in both 2023 and 2024.
“He’s a big part of our team,” said Stars GM Jim Nill, highlighting Oettinger’s talent and dedication to Dallas. This sentiment was echoed by coach Pete DeBoer who praised Oettinger’s leadership and clutch performance in high-pressure situations.
Both sides expressed their satisfaction with the swift deal, allowing Oettinger to focus on his game. This extension solidifies Oettinger as a cornerstone for the Stars for years to come.
