Matthew Tkachuk scored with just 12 seconds remaining in regulation, lifting the Florida Panthers to a dramatic 3-2 victory over the St. Louis Blues at Enterprise Center on Thursday. The late goal capped off a strong performance for Tkachuk, who finished the game with two goals and an assist. Sam Reinhart also played a crucial role, setting up the game-winning play after his initial shot was blocked.
Reinhart’s shot was blocked by Blues defenseman Colton Parayko, but Reinhart quickly regained possession and fired the puck towards the net. Tkachuk then skillfully deflected the puck past Blues goaltender Joel Hofer, securing the win for Florida. Despite the late goal, Blues coach Jim Montgomery felt his team was defensively sound, but acknowledged that Reinhart’s persistence ultimately made the difference. Hofer took responsibility for the goal, admitting he needed to make the save.
Tkachuk’s goal extended his scoring streak to five games, highlighting his offensive prowess. Mackie Samoskevich also scored for the Panthers, who have now won four of their last five games. Florida coach Paul Maurice praised his team’s effort, particularly their strong defensive play in the third period. Spencer Knight made 20 saves in the win, while Aleksander Barkov contributed two assists.
For the Blues, Zack Bolduc and Oskar Sundqvist scored, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Tkachuk’s late heroics. Hofer made 31 saves in the loss, which leaves the Blues struggling with a 1-5-1 record in their past seven games. Bolduc expressed the team’s disappointment with the late loss, but acknowledged their strong effort throughout the game. Sundqvist echoed those sentiments, feeling the team deserved a better outcome, especially after a strong second period.
