The Utah Hockey Club wasted no time etching its mark on NHL history, naming forward Clayton Keller as their first-ever captain on Friday.

Leading by Example

The 26-year-old brings a wealth of experience and leadership qualities to the role. He served as an alternate captain for the Arizona Coyotes during the past two seasons, and his on-ice performance speaks for itself. Keller led the Coyotes in goals (33), assists (43), and points (76) in their final season before relocating to Utah.

Earning the Respect

“I understand it’s a privilege to be a captain in the NHL,” Keller said, expressing his gratitude to the organization and teammates. “This is a huge responsibility and one I have prepared my whole life for.”

General Manager Bill Armstrong echoed the sentiment, praising Keller’s evolution as a player and leader who has earned the respect of the entire organization. “Clayton has become an even better person who has earned the respect of the entire organization,” Armstrong stated.

Strong Leadership Core

Keller finds himself surrounded by strong leadership within the Utah franchise. Coach Andre Tourigny commended Keller’s dedication and unwavering desire to win, which will undoubtedly inspire the team. “He’ll be a great captain for us and I’m very happy to count on Clayton as our captain,” Tourigny said.

Eyes on the Future

With Keller at the helm, the Utah Hockey Club steps onto the ice for their inaugural regular-season game against the Chicago Blackhawks on Tuesday. This historic moment marks the beginning of a new chapter for both the franchise and Keller’s leadership journey. The Seattle Kraken are the only remaining team in the NHL without a captain.
