5 Skills Named After Olympic Gymnasts
October 11, 2024

The Utah Hockey Club completed a dramatic comeback on Thursday night, defeating the New York Islanders 5-4 in overtime at UBS Arena. Rookie forward Dylan Guenther emerged as the hero, scoring the game-winning goal just 2:18 into the extra frame.
Guenther’s Heroics Secure Second Straight Win
Guenther, who notched his second goal of the game on the power play in overtime, capitalized on a 3-on-1 rush. He received a pass from Sean Durzi and roofed a shot over the glove of Islanders goaltender Semyon Varlamov to seal the victory for Utah.
Islanders Squander Late Lead
The Islanders, looking to secure their first win of the season, appeared in control after Maxim Tsyplakov’s goal in his NHL debut gave them a 4-3 lead with just over two minutes remaining in the third period. However, Utah’s Josh Doan responded just 13 seconds later, tying the game at 4-4 with a well-placed shot under Varlamov.
Back-and-Forth Encounter
Both teams traded blows throughout the contest. Anthony Duclair opened the scoring for the Islanders on a power play in the first period, while Lawson Crouse answered with a power-play goal of his own later in the frame. Barrett Hayton put Utah ahead in the second period, but the Islanders battled back with goals from Bo Horvat and Jean-Gabriel Pageau to take the lead before Doan and Guenther’s heroics stole the show.
Looking Ahead
This victory marks Utah’s second straight win to start their inaugural season. The Islanders, on the other hand, will look to bounce back from their first loss as they continue their quest for their first win of the year.
